6th Grade Kite Flying Fun!
After learning about weather, including different types of fronts and how wind moves, 6th-grade students put their knowledge into action by creating tetrahedron kites using straws, tissue paper, string, and glue.
With excitement in the air, they took their colorful creations outside to share with the elementary students—and to see just how high they could fly! Some kites soared high into the sky, making it an unforgettable sight.
Laughter, learning, and a little friendly competition filled the afternoon, and even a few staff members joined in the high-flying fun. What a great day of hands-on learning and sky-high smiles! 🪁

The 2nd-grade students celebrated their “Good Old Days” on Wednesday, April 15. Throughout the afternoon, they explored what life was like in the past by learning about train signals using a lantern and how to use a rotary telephone. They also observed a variety of vintage items, including an old stroller, keys, toy trucks, and a hand saw. Students discovered that ice was once delivered in large blocks and had to be broken into smaller pieces with an ice pick. The highlight of the afternoon was a ride in a Model A car. It was a fun-filled day of learning, curiosity, and smiles for everyone!

Students at Doniphan West had the unique opportunity to observe a live court session held at Highland Community College on April 14, 2026. The proceedings included both a criminal appeal and a civil appeal from Pottawatomie County.
The Kansas Court of Appeals, a 14-member panel, serves as the state’s intermediate appellate court, reviewing cases involving criminal, civil, and administrative matters. Typically working in three-judge panels, the court travels across Kansas to hear cases.
During proceedings, judges review case records and written briefs, and may hear oral arguments to ask questions and clarify details. These sessions are open to the public and sometimes livestreamed. After careful review, the panel issues written decisions, which may be further reviewed by the Kansas Supreme Court.
Students in attendance experienced a rare, behind-the-scenes look at the appellate court system in action, gaining firsthand insight into how legal decisions are reviewed and shaped at a higher level.
