💙🧡Reunited🧡💙 Our roots run even deeper than we realize here at Doniphan West! During personal development before the school year “Frederick” the goose was found in the old science classroom and claimed by Mrs. Edie to be the Office Goose, a twist on the viral porch goose trend. The first week of school, the student body and anyone entering the office were encouraged to put name suggestions in the box and the second week of school students were given the opportunity to vote on the name they liked best. Today we were supposed to pick the winner of the goose naming contest. In a turn of events, the goose was identified at the volleyball jamboree as a long lost family heirloom. Fredrick the goose was mounted by Bob Campbell in 1978, sat on the desk of long-time Doniphan County Principal Conrad Clary’s desk for many years of his career. Many of his past students will recall the goose dressed up in glasses and a plastic nose as Principal Clary told stories about his origin and adventures. Principal Clary served the Midway Eagles and Highland Blue Streaks during his 40 year career as a principal before retiring, and is still spoken of fondly all these years later. Conrad’s family remain active members of the Doniphan West community and his great grandchildren are current students. After 15 years of being sought out by the family, Fredrick the goose is going back home to the Clary’s. But have no fear, Mustangs. A new office goose is in route to the Doniphan West High School office. We are so excited to welcome Mr. Conrad Waddlesworth, a.k.a. “Mr. Waddlesworth” and to keep our community updated on his outfits and adventures. What started out as a fun activity to engage students at the start of the school year turned into a heartfelt story of the history and longevity of our school and community. It’s a great day to be a Mustang!
