Mustangs softball split a doubleheader against Centralia on Tuesday, April 8, winning the first game 7-0 before falling 5-2 in the second.
In game one, Brooklyn Denton was perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4 with singles in the first, third, fifth, and sixth innings. Clara Feighner delivered a dominant performance in the circle, striking out 17 batters, allowing just one hit, and walking none in a complete-game shutout.
The Mustangs got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Brennah Edie grounded out and Jaidyn Smith scored after tagging up. H’Leigha Idol added two more runs with a single to the left side of the infield in the third. Idol led the offense with four RBIs, going 2-for-3. Edie also had a strong showing at the plate, going 2-for-4. Doniphan West totaled 11 hits in the game.
In Game 2, the Mustangs managed two runs, including a solo home run to center field by Clara Feighner in the sixth inning. Feighner also pitched all seven innings, striking out 12 while allowing five runs (three earned) on seven hits and walking none. Feighner and Ella Haynes each drove in a run, while Edie once again led the team in hits, going 2-for-4.
