Aliza Tracy, a sophomore at Doniphan West High School, wrapped up a stellar freshman year by winning multiple art awards throughout the school year. On April 17, 2025, her acrylic painting earned an Artistic Excellence Award, at the Highland Community College High School Art Days—a prestigious honor the entire Doniphan West community can be proud of.

The event was highly competitive, with over 45 schools represented, more than 900 participants, and over 1,300 pieces of artwork entered. Schools came from Falls City, Nebraska, throughout areas west of Highland, down the I-29 corridor, including St. Joseph, Missouri, and the Kansas City metro area. Judges faced especially tough decisions this year.

In addition to showcasing student work, the event also featured hands-on activities, giving students the chance to try new and exciting art media.

Aliza’s award-winning painting captured an underwater sea scene with sunlight shimmering realistically through the water. Her piece created a vivid, lifelike vision and featured a shark that was both anatomically and visually correct—showcasing her impressive attention to detail.

Aliza has tremendous support from her family and the entire Doniphan West community. Elementary, junior high, and high school teachers—along with other talented freshman students—have all encouraged her along the way. She dedicates an enormous amount of time to her artwork while balancing her commitments incredibly well.

In addition to her painting success, Aliza is also a multiple-time winner for designing St. Joseph Mustangs baseball tickets—another outstanding achievement that highlights her creative talents.

Great job, Aliza!!
