DWES Students Excel in Poster Contest
Doniphan West Elementary School students participated in two different art contests during Art class this school year.
First, students created posters for the Doniphan County Conservation District following the theme of “Where Would we BEE Without Pollinators?” Students were encouraged to be creative and focus on all that pollinators do for our environment.
Several DWES students were named as winners in this contest: Kindergarten - First Grade group: First Place - Mya Hennigan, daughter of Jim and Sheila Hennigan. Second Place - Tinley Cluck, daughter of Matt and Jennifer Cluck.
Fourth - Sixth Grade group: First Place: Eli Gibson, son of Jason and Rachel Gibson. Second Place: Karlee Buckley, daughter of Brandee Buckley. Third Place: Courtney Johnson, daughter of David and Carla Johnson.
All the students worked very hard on their posters and we are so proud of their achievements! The winning students each received a medal and a packet of wildflower seeds.
The second contest students participated in this year was hosted by The University of Notre Dame and called “Living Worlds Space Art Contest.” Students learned about exoplanet Kepler 452-B, and drew what life on this exoplanet might be like. This was a nationwide art contest. Allie Freeman, daughter of Daniel Freeman and Courtney Wolvington, received Third Place in the Kindergarten through First Grade category. As a prize, Allie received three books about space and a light for her bedroom. Also, Mrs. Rachel Gibson, her art teacher, was awarded a $100 gift card to use for her classroom.
