D-West Summer Camp Visits Brown County Lake

On June 12 the Doniphan West Summer Camp students went to Brown County Lake. The students rotated through three stations. The rotations included fishing, a nature walk and cooking smores and hotdogs. The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) provides free, nutritious meals and snacks to help children in low-income areas get the nutrition they need to learn, play, and grow, throughout the summer months when they are out of school. The juniors have responsibilities and high expectations for the upcoming senior year. The number one rule for senior year is don’t procrastinate. Since they will have senior project they will have to learn to keep up on their work. Procrastination is probably one of the main things that everyone faces. While the high school has only about 92 students, all of them have a big role in making this school what it is. Doniphan West Athletes Compete at State Track Meet

Two Doniphan West Athletes made the trip to Wichita this past weekend to compete in the Kansas 1A-6A State Track Meet, held at Cessna Stadium on the Wichita State Campus.  The state meet is the largest track meet in the United States with over 3800 athletes competing this year!  Representing the Mustangs was senior Payton Leach, who qualified in the high jump, and Kenzie Blevins, who qualified in the long jump. Leach was the first to compete, jumping at 6:00 on Friday evening.  Leach gave a solid performance, clearing the opening height of 4’6 and then 4’8 on her first attempts.  With the bar at . . . read more

Mini-Grant Awarded to Teachers

PTO offered mini-grants to teachers this year. The teachers had the opportunity to submit grants for items to better enhance the teaching in their classrooms. A grant committee consisting of a parent from each class, preschool through Jr ... . High, reviewed the anonymous grants and winners will be announced each day this week during Teacher Appreciation Week. And the Winners are: Mrs. Gibson, art teacher, who requested kiln stilts and sleeves and Mrs. Robinson, Title 1 teacher, who requested reading materials to enhance student learning.
